Thursday August 11-Whitefish and Polson

It was cool this morning, with the temps in the 50’s. We drove west to Whitefish. It is a pretty little town, with skiing in the winter at Big Mountain. We quickly found a parking place, and walked along, looking in many of the shops. They had the usual shops, a junk shop, chocolate shop, quilt shop, pottery and jewelry shops.

We stopped for lunch at Sally’s Bakery and Deli. We were distinctly underwhelmed by the sandwiches! We went looking for the Chamber of Commerce for brochures. It was very difficult to find, and did not have a lot of area information. We decided to drive to Polson, at the southern end of Flathead Lake. The lake is huge, 32 miles long and 15 miles wide. The lake is in the top 300 largest natural fresh water lakes in the world.  It was a pretty ride. When we arrived in Polson, we bought gas for $3.59 per gallon. We stopped at Glacier Brewery

for Bob to taste some beers. He tried the Cherry Beer, the Stout and the Oktoberfest. He was not impressed with any of them.

We returned to the motor home, grilled dinner, and sat out by the motor home enjoying the beautiful evening.
